The Inheritance Games

With Jennifer Lynn Barnes’s TikTok-viral book *The Inheritance Games* , I kept thinking it was a fantasy novel, and since I rarely read book descriptions before buying them, I was completely surprised. Still, the book immediately captivated me, and I couldn’t put it down. And this isn’t just because of the way Jennifer writes, but also because of the nearly perfect protagonist she’s created. Avery Kylie Grambs is exactly the kind of girl many try to be. She’s incredibly smart, ambitious, and always seems to be two steps ahead of the rest of the world. While reading, I kept trying to think ahead of Avery (and I actually managed to do it once), but most of the time I failed because Avery was thinking in a completely different direction than I was. And every time she uncovered a complicated secret, I wondered how an author comes up with such ideas. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is one of my favorite authors because she has incredible ideas for plot twists and makes readers feel like they’re living inside the book and have known the characters their whole lives.

The book is about Avery, who lives in terrible circumstances. Her mother has passed away, and her biological father is nowhere to be found. Avery spends every spare minute working so she can help her half-sister Libby pay the rent. When Avery goes to school after a very exhausting day, she is summoned to the principal’s office. There, a mysterious man is waiting for her, who explains that his grandfather has died and that his will stipulates it cannot be read aloud unless Avery is present at the reading. So she decides to go to the reading of the will with Libby, expecting to inherit a few thousand dollars, which would make her life much easier. But she was wrong. She inherited nearly 50 billion dollars, and the rest of the family members were practically disinherited.

This gripping thriller isn't just full of endless mysteries that you'll want to unravel right away; it also features a shifting dynamic between Avery and the four grandchildren of the deceased man.

In summary, I can say that not only the first book, but the entire series is worth reading. If you’re a fan of stories filled with mysteries and danger, you should definitely give this series a read.
